February 2021: Issue 1

We are very happy to inform you that most of the 2020 World Congress plenary, panel sessions and other videos have been published on the IFAC YouTube channel. There is a separate 21st IFAC World Congress, Berlin (Germany) 2020 playlist. Each panel discussion is linked in the last 15-20 seconds of the corresponding session.

We have heard that some of you may have again received a scam message purportedly sent by Prof. Hajime Asama. It's a customized message to the recipient including your name.

This message is not from our President, Prof. Hajime Asama and was not sent from an account affiliated with him or IFAC.

The used e-mail address is not Prof. Hajime Asama’s e-mail address.

PLEASE DO NOT REACT AT ALL to the e-mail and don't reply.

Taken action: In an effort to combat the spam/phishing messages IFAC has removed the email addresses of IFAC officials from the list of officials (listed under structure).

If you want to contact an IFAC official and do not have their address and/or do not find it from another source you can click on the email link next to their name in the list of officials. The email will go to the IFAC Secretariat, who can then forward the message on to the respective person.

Please note that the spam messages have NOT been sent from IFAC email addresses, servers, etc. and that IFAC internal information has not been compromised.

The Girls in Control (GIC) virtual workshop, which is offered free of charge, is targeted to 10-to-15-year-old girls. Its aims are to stimulate their passion for control and encourage them to consider a career in STEM.

During the workshop, the girls watch several videos covering control theoretic principles. They learn about feedback and discuss control examples from their everyday lives. Using the Scratch programming language they can then implement their first controllers for an automated game of their design.

The workshop is currently available in English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Japanese, Russian and Portuguese and is being expanded to include Bangla, Chinese, Farsi, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Punjabi, Pushto, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, and Urdu. Additionally plans are underway to expand the workshop to include offerings for older girls with prior/advanced programming experience.
